Dale Stenseth's Grays Peak Page
|
This trip was my first experience hiking above 8000 feet. I flew from Minneapolis to Denver for a week. I wanted to acclimate for a few days before the hike. Tuesday, I went exploring to the east along I-76 and the South Platte River, looking for Michener's fictitious town, 'Centennial'. I found the model town. Wednesday, I visited Rocky Mountain National Park, to get some time at 11,000 ft. Thursday, I drove to Colorado Springs, and took the tram to Pikes Peak. Friday, I drove to the top of Mt. Evans, 14,264 ft feet. Saturday was the hike. |
